Frequently asked questions

Once I sign up, how do I start downloading images?

The easiest way to search for files on iStock is by typing keywords into the search bar at the top of the site and selecting the file type you're looking for (by default we'll only show you photos and illustrations).

Once you've entered a keyword, we'll show you search results related to the term. To get exactly what you're looking for, you can apply additional filters to your search results using our refine panel.

Once you find an image you like, click its thumbnail to see details about the file and download it.

How can I use the free images I download during my trial?

The images you download during your free trial come with the same standard license as any other iStock file and can be used in a wide variety of projects including advertising, websites, blogs, presentations, publications, video productions, podcasts, and more.

Since they're royalty-free, you can use them in as many projects as you want for as long as you want, within the terms of the license agreement.

What's included with iStock’s Premium subscription?

Premium subscriptions include everything from our Basic subscription (industry standard photos, vectors, and illustrations), as well as handpicked Signature collection images that you can only get from us.

What happens if I don't download all 10 images during my free trial?

Unless you cancel your trial, you'll be able to roll over your unused downloads to the following month.

With any annual iStock subscription, you can rollover up to 250 unused downloads month to month. If auto-renew is disabled when your subscription term ends, you will lose all rollover downloads that you've accrued.

How can I download files not available with my subscription?

If you need a file that isn't available for download with your subscription, you can always download it with credits.

Do the images downloaded during my trial ever expire?

There is no expiration date on your rights to use files downloaded during your subscription period. That includes any files downloaded during your trial.

How do I cancel a subscription?

For subscriptions that are not part of the free trial, all requests for cancellations must be made in writing through our contact us email form. In the event of cancellation, your rights to use the content terminate, and you must delete or destroy any copies of the content.

Free Trial subscription cancellations - You can cancel your Free Trial before it converts to a paid annual subscription before your trial month ends. To cancel, go to the Overview page of your account, and click on "Cancel free trial." Any content you download during the Free Trial month (i.e. first month of your subscription) is yours to keep, even if you cancel. You can also cancel through our contact us email form before your trial month ends.

Unless you cancel before the Free Trial month ends, you'll be charged the monthly fee for each remaining month of your annual subscription. Canceling during your paid annual subscription may incur an administrative fee that covers customer care processing and royalties paid to our contributors. See our Free Trial cancellation policy.

How does the iStock free 1-month trial work?

When you sign up for a Premium 1-month free trial, you can download up to 10 images from the Essentials or Signature collection, at no cost.

Once your free trial expires, you'll automatically be enrolled in iStock's Premium annual 10-images/month plan. If you don't want to subscribe, simply go to your account at any time within the first month of your trial to cancel.
